Gender

In sociology we listend to a song by a person named Tracy Champman. At first you would think it was a woman going to be singing the song just by her name. If you would have just been shown her picture and her name you probably would have thought she was a man from the way she has her hair cut and herr bone structure, my whole class did. Once you would hear the song you would deffinatly be believing she was a man from her deep voice. Just shows you how much people split humanity into two groups of male or famles. Why does gender have to be split in to two groups when there are plenty of people out there with genetic disorders which cause them to be both male and female, should they be forced to chose which side they wanna be on, or can they have there own peice of mind knowing they dont have to chose. I feel that gender is just a kind of clique. A girl can not have a lot of friends that are boys without being called a mean name by other girl just becuase girls and guys just cant be friends for some reason. I think its perfectly okay for girls and boys to be friends. Gender is just a way to separate people when we should really be bringing them closer together and helping them understand differences not making fun of the differences.

dolls & cars.

How come women car dealership sales reps sell more cars then men? Is it because they're prettier, or because they have better stratagies? Women do think more about the pros and cons of a situation when men mostly think in the moment and dont worry about the consequences. If more men thought of the outcome would there be so many disputes between men and women. More women usually get better tips while working. Is that why when you think of someone serving you food you call the waitress, not the waiter. Ive noticed at work we have a tip jar and more men tip the women workers and the women usually ignore the tip jar. The guys that work with me usually have to really be talkative and really try hard to get a tip but men just hand the women their tip. Why is it so much easier for women to get simple things but when it comes to large issuse we are shut out of the delima. Women lose their jobs faster then men. Why does gender automatically matter when someones job is on the line? Shouldnt it be who is the better coinsistant worker. Gender is just another America has that should be really re-evalutated on what its significance is.

Chapter 3 x2

Counterculture is exposed freely in cities with more people with southern backrounds. People in the city i live in deal with counterculture everyday. People make fun of them for speaking a different language or what color their skin is or where they come from and what they wear. people who exclude these people from their lives are just giveing themselve a larger reason to be wrong. Americans need to want to understand their fellow neighbors, peers, and staff. The best way to learn a new culture is to just jump right in the middle of it and expericence it the way others do everyday. I experience counterculture everyday at school. Children/young adults look at people and laugh at them for something physical unapealing to them but they don't even know the person. It really upsets me when people make fun of other people for physical aspects. People these days just need to realize that everyone is not perfect. You're expecially not perfect if you feel better about yourself when you put someone else down. I strongly feel that counterculture should be less and less exceptable in society. Next time you think to say something about someone... think about what they can say right back about you because when you point a finger, you have three pointing right back at you.

what's our culture?

America says that we are multicultural, but barley show it. We eat Americanized hispanic, chinese, and any other cultural foods. We've never taken the chance to really understand and see how it is to live in another culture. We say we have many cultures involved in our everyday lives but we really just separate them. We have thousands of subcultures in one city. I think we need to bring all of the cultures together and teach children that being multicultural is a wonderful thing. So many people are ignorant of other cultures because no one take the time to learn or teach other people about cultures. If everyone tried to learn one cultural thing that they were not used to a day then, I don't think we would have as many social problems as we do im America.

material culture.

In the U.S. people find so many little objects so important. For example having a cell phone is a must in the new age because so many people have the need to contact other poeple for school, work, and social aspects. I used my phone every day. I use it mostly for social aspects, but people in other contries are not as fortunate as us in America. Adults in other poor coutries don't even have food to feed their children and we're worried about if our cell phone is charged or not. I think we need to re-evalute what is really important to us and what are values are. There is a lot more things in the world that need attention. Try writing a family member a letter or a card once in a while, I'm sure you will find your newest pen pale to be someone thats been there all along.

Face Down

Title: Face Down
Artist: Red Jumpsuit Apparatus

This song is about a women who is being abused by her boyfriend. Her boyfriend feels that he is always right and he feels better about himself when he beats her. the girl feels alone in the relationship and feels like she cant escape. She has to hide how she truely feels and has to tell herself that shes never gunna get beat again, but she finally gets enough courage to kick him out.
This song is really aboutwhat its like for women to go through an abusive relationship. Sometimes they wants to get out of it but feels like they can't. Some wonder if their boyfriend or husband feel good about themselves when they beat them and make them feel worthless. Most understands that their relationship is bad and need to make a change, but being in a rough relationship is what their used to and where they feel they fit in life. Some try figure out a way to get out and show that women in abusive relationships can get out and can do better for themselves. If they can they can they need to stick up for what they believe in if they feel its safe.

I picked this song because I have always liked it and it shows what true life is about in some cases.

Chapter 3

Women and young teenage girls are showing more and more skin. Most show skin because they want all the attention from society and it makes them feel better about themselves when people are looking their way. In American culture we have adapted to this lifestyle that is all about beauty and sexualality. America used to have shame for the women that were promiscuous. Society used to put these women in their own catagorie. In other countries women are not as sexual. They are very conservitive and keep their bodies covered. In the muslim culture they even have to wear a head dress where in America they barley have to wear a shirt. Women in other cultures are not as free as American women. American women get just about anything they want. Our American culture most of the time do not take notice to how lucky we women are. If we did not fight for what we believed in and revolted against the unjust agreements then we would have no freedom. We would have no respect and be looked at as someone unequal to men. I am so thankful for the freedoms that past women have faught for. They deserve all the credit they can get. Culture changes frequently and we need to help other women from other countries fight for what they need, and that is respect.
